Game 60 | June 11, 2010, 7:05 pm CDT | AT&T Bricktown Ballpark | Oklahoma City, OK
News Radio 1000 KTOK, RedHawks Radio Network | Play-by-Play: Jim Byers & Judson Richards
RH Doug Mathis (1-1, 4.29) vs. LH Cody White (2-0, 1.54)
TONIGHT: The RedHawks continue a 4-game series with Game 2 against the Albuquerque Isotopes (Los Angeles Dodgers) at The Brick. OKC scored 10 runs in the first 3 innings last night to take the opener 10-6 and slip 2.5 games ahead of Albuquerque in the American South Division. A win tonight would give OKC its biggest division lead of the season at 3.5 games. The previous best was a 3-game advantage twice, following wins April 26 and May 5. A RedHawks win would also put them 8 games over .500, matching the season best set at 15-7 after a win April 30. Doug Mathis is slated to start for the RedHawks against lefty Cody White.
STREAKS: Chris Davis is on a season-high 9-game hitting streak, during which he's 16-for-33 (.485) with 2 homers and 7 RBIs. Ryan Garko brings a 19-game on-base streak into tonight. He has reached in every game played as a RedHawk since debuting May 20 at Portland. Brandon Boggs has reached in 16 straight and is fourth in the league in walks with 34. Hernan Iribarren has an 8-game hitting streak, during which he's 10-for-32 (.313) with 8 RBIs. Iribarren's streak spans the month of June and has raised his batting average from .227 to .242.
TO THE GOOD: The RedHawks own the best run differential in the league, having scored 305 runs while allowing 230, +75. Fresno is second at +59. The Durham Bulls of the International League have the best run differential among Triple-A teams with a +129, having scored 350 while allowing 221 runs in building the IL's best record as 37-24.
OUT FAST: The RedHawks scored 4 runs in the first inning last night and have 9 first-inning runs in the last 3 games. OKC has not allowed a first-inning run in 5 games since Memphis tallied 3 on June 4 in the previous homestand finale.
GERMAN TRACKER: Esteban German is third in the league lead with 43 runs scored and second in stolen bases with 20. German is tied for fifth in the PCL in walks with 33, 1 behind Brandon Boggs.
PITCHING TOPS IN PCL: OKC leads the PCL in team ERA at 3.38. Iowa is second at 3.71. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs in the league (30), 13 fewer than the closest teams, Fresno and Tacoma. OKC has allowed the fewest runs (230) and earned runs (198), while compiling the second-most strikeouts (444) behind Sacramento (454).
BRAWNY BULLPEN: Willie Eyre and Alexi Ogando combined for 4 scoreless innings out of the RedHawks' bullpen last night. In the past 24 games, OKC's bullpen has worked 92.2 innings, allowing 17 earned runs (1.66 ERA) on 58 hits while going 6-2. The bullpen's collective ERA has dipped below the starters. The relief corps has a 3.33 ERA, the starters 3.41.
GOING DEEP: OKC has collected 52 homers, fifth-most in the PCL. The RedHawks had a 3-game home run streak snapped last night. The RedHawks have 25 homers at The Brick and 27 on the road. Half of OKC's homers (26 of 52) have been with 2 outs in an inning. Thirteen homers have tied the score or given them the lead in the fifth inning or later. The 2009 RedHawks had 7 such homers in all of last season.
FOURTH QUARTER: Thursday was the PCL's third off day of the season. So far, the campaign has been divided into three 20-day segments. OKC went 13-7 in the first phase, 8-11 in the second hunk (1 game was postponed) and 11-8 in the segment that ended Tuesday (1 game was cancelled by rain in Tacoma). The league started a fourth 20 games in 20 days cycle last night, with the next schedule doff day June 30.
COOLBAUGH IN COMMAND: RedHawks hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh is OKC's interim manager this series as Bobby Jones takes his Ranger-mandated 4-game vacation. Dating to his 2009 fill-in stint, Coolbaugh has won 5 straight at the helm of the RedHawks.
