Tacoma Rainiers News Release

The Tacoma Rainiers had trouble digging themselves out of an early hole, dropping their series opener with Fresno 9-5 at Cheney Stadium on Thursday.

The Rainiers watched as the Grizzlies scored seven runs on 10 hits over the first three innings of action in the first meeting between the two teams this season. Five of those runs came in the top of the second, highlighted by outfielder Tyler Graham's two-out, two-RBI triple.

Tacoma attempted to mount a comeback with four runs over the sixth and seventh innings, but the rally stalled there and Tacoma was dealt a third straight loss.

Shortstop Jack Wilson was one of the bright spots in the Rainiers lineup on Thursday night after blasting his first home run with Tacoma, a solo shot, in the third inning. Graham led the Grizzlies offense after going 2-for-5 and driving in four runs.

Earning the win for Fresno was starter Henry Sosa, who gave up just one run on three hits with four strikeouts over five innings of action.

Starter Chris Seddon was stuck with the loss in his first start since putting together a complete-game shutout against Sacramento on June 4. The left-hander surrendered seven runs on 12 hits over 4.1 innings, with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Rainiers look to bounce back when they take the field again on Friday at 7:00 p.m. for the second game of their series against the Grizzlies. Tacoma will send right-hander David Pauley to the mound in the outing, with left-hander Matt Yourkin getting the nod for Fresno.
