Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers announced Thursday the signing of forward Justin Mansfield as well as a call-up for forward Tommy Mele to the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.
Mansfield, 6-foot-0, 205-pounds, joins the Oilers after just completing his senior season at Merrimack College in Andover, Massachusetts. The 24-year old posted nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) in 36 games during the 2014-15 campaign and was named the Warriors' assistant captain. A native of Arlington, Massachusetts, Mansfield played four seasons of junior hockey for the Boston Junior Bruins of the Easter Junior Hockey League. In 2010-11, his final junior season, Mansfield led Boston in assists (44) and points (65).
"I think what we have in Justin is a versatile player who can be relied to play forward or defense if called upon," said Bruce Ramsay, Oilers Head Coach. "He's been playing at the highest level of college hockey against some of the nation's top players and I believe he's ready to jump in and help our hockey club as we continue to push for the playoffs."
Mele, a fourth-year pro out of Bronx, New York, was recalled by the Barons for the second time this season. The 5-foot-11, 188-pound winger appeared in his first AHL game for Oklahoma City on January 30 and was part of the Barons' 4-3 overtime victory over the Lake Erie Monsters. In 60 games for the Oilers this season, Mele has recorded 21 goals, 17 assists, and 200 penalty minutes.
The Oilers earned their fifth straight win with a 2-1 triumph over the Mallards on Wednesday night and will look to continue their win streak on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder.
Four home games remain in the regular season and to purchase tickets call 918-632-7825 or log on to www.tulsaoilers.com.
