March 19, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO- Thursday was a busy day in terms of roster movement for the Kalamazoo Wings. The K-Wings started transactions with signing of forward Will Kessel.
Kessel, who just completed his collegiate career at Western Michigan University, was the Broncos team captain. A leader by example, Kessel played in all 37 games for Western Michigan and established a new career-high for points notching 20 (7 goals, 13 assists).
A four-year standout, Kessel recorded 45 points (20 goals, 25 assists) in 148 career games with the Broncos. The native of Bloomfield, Michigan helped Western Michigan to the CCHA Championship and a NCAA Tournament berth during the 2011-12 season.
Before heading to college, Kessel has a very successful junior career with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League. Kessel helped the Gamblers capture the Clark Cup in 2010 and finish as runner-ups in 2011.
Kessle becomes the second member of WMU to join the K-Wings this week. On Tuesday, Justin Kovacs joined the team and recorded an assist in the 5-3 victory over the Indy Fuel.
In a pair of American Hockey League moves, the Springfield Falcons have reassigned goaltender Oscar Dansk. The first year pro returns to Kalamazoo after playing in 21 games with the Falcons and called-up to the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Vancouver Canucks have also reassigned defenseman Jeremie Blain to the AHL's Utica Comets.
Blain's reassignment to Utica marks the 23rd time this season that a member of the K-Wings has been either called-up or loaned to an AHL team.
In separate transactions, the K-Wings have waived goaltender Garrett Bartus and forward Steve Mele.
The K-Wings play at home this Friday, March 20th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Fort Wayne Komets on Celebration! Cinema Night. This Friday will also be a 3, 2, 1 Countdown to Fun!, featuring $3 beer, $2 Pepsi products and $1 hot dogs featuring Winter Sausage hot dogs and Harding's Friendly Markets buns.
