Tulsa Oilers News Release

RAPID CITY, SD - The Tulsa Oilers were unable to sustain a second period advantage in a 5-2 loss to the Rapid City Rush on Tuesday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Tulsa surrendered four unanswered goals over the final 30 minutes of play and concluded the season series with a 3-1-1 record against the Rush.

Gordon Bell, playing in just his seventh game of the season, opened the scoring for the Oilers when he slid the puck past Tim Boron at the 5:18 mark of the first period. It was Bell's first goal since the 2010-11 campaign, his first season with the Oilers. Rusty Masters deflection evened up the score at 16:44 of the first as Masters found the net for a third straight contest.

Early in the second, Oilers center Drew Akins was hauled down on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot. Akins made the most of his opportunity by flipping a backhand over the glove of Boron to give Tulsa its second advantage of the game. With Rapid City on the powerplay at 12:44, Scott Wray scored his 99th goal as a member of the Rush when his slapshot rocketed past Madolora to tie the game at 2-2. In the final seconds of the frame, Boron robbed Jeff Buvinow and Rapid City was able to create an odd man rush off the rebound. Jesse Schultz threaded a pass across the Oilers crease where Jared Brown got just enough on the puck to slide it past Madolora. With 10 seconds left on the second period clock, Rapid City had its first lead of the evening.

Less than a minute into the third, Schultz slid a shot through Madolora to give the home side a two-goal cushion. Winston Day Chief added his eighth goal of the season at 11:40 to put the contest out of reach.

Boron, who boasts the highest save percentage in the CHL, made 24 saves on 26 shots and recorded his 19th win of the season. Madolora 35 saves in a losing effort.

Ryan Menei had his five-game point streak snapped and the Oilers, who went 3-for-4 on the powerplay on Saturday, went 0-for-2 on Tuesday night.

Tulsa will play its fifth straight road game on Friday night in Missouri at 7:05 p.m. CST.
