Oilers Back on Track with 2-1 Triumph over Blaze

TULSA, OK - After being outscored 17-4 in the past three losses, the Tulsa Oilers woes ended with a 2-1 victory over the Bloomington Blaze Friday night in front of a crowd of 5,374 at the BOK Center. Ryan Cramer was the catalyst, contributing two first period goals for Tulsa.

The scoring got underway a little past the halfway point of the first period when Cramer found himself all alone in front of the Bloomington net. The second-year pro faked a snap shot to pull Blaze goalie Pier-Olivier Pelletier out of position and then deftly flicked the puck into the upper corner. Ryan Menei and Sean Erickson assisted Cramer who netted his ninth of the season. With 3:02 remaining in the opening stanza, Menei sliced into the middle of the Blaze zone and his wrist shot was tipped in by Cramer. Menei has 45 assists this season and has at least one point in seven of his last eight games.

The only other score came with 16:46 to go in the final frame as Bloomington's Matthew Larke beat Shane Madolora to trim the Tulsa lead to 2-1. The Oilers held on for the rest of the night despite being outshot 37 to 23. Jon Booras, a CHL MVP candidate for Bloomington, was held to just one point in the loss for the Blaze.

Madolora, who was named the Warrior Goalie of the Month for February, turned back 36 shots on the night.

Bloomington, the top powerplay team in the Central Hockey League, failed to convert on either of its powerplay opportunities. Tulsa had allowed eight powerplay goals in the last three contests.

Tulsa is now 1-4-1 on the season against Bloomington and earned a victory for just the second time in the last eight outings. The victory means the Oilers are still clinging to life in the CHL playoff race, trailing eighth place Quad City by 12 points with seven games to play.

The Oilers will take to the road tomorrow night in Wichita to begin a five game road trip. Their next home contest will come Mar. 23 against Wichita.
