Quad City Mallards News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO - Mickey Lang scored twice, Obi Aduba provided one goal and two assists and Neil Conway made 34 saves as the Quad City Mallards jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back on the way to defeating the host Missouri Mavericks 7-2 Friday night. With what was their third straight win, the Mallards moved two games over .500- to 26-24-6 and 58 points- for the first time this season.
Aduba's point-blank power play goal started the Mallard onslaught at 5:59 of the first period. Just over two minutes later, Lang doubled the lead from the right wing circle. At 10:32, Lang struck again- this time on a breakaway- to make it 3-0 and chase Maverick starting goaltender Mike Clemente from the game. Relief netminder Mathieu Corbeil was given a rude introduction to the contest by the Mallards' Mike Hellyer, who pumped a Corbeil giveaway into the gaping Missouri net at 14:29. Colt King's close range power play goal got the Mavericks on the scoreboard at 17:11 of the first, but the Mallards would still take a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.
Mike Stinziani raced down the left wing and crashed into the Maverick net while scoring the fifth Mallard goal at 9:29 of the second period. With just 33 seconds left in the second, the gap widened to 6-1 when rookie defenseman Mitch McColm scored his first career goal from the blue line.
The Maverick's Kenton Miller scored the second Missouri goal from the doorstep at 7:27 of the third period, but the Mavericks would get no closer before Matt Boyd's shorthanded empty net goal capped off the Mallard win at 17:05 of the third.
The Mallards return home tomorrow night for a 7:05 p.m. rematch with the Mavericks. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for tomorrow evening's game will receive free Mo Mallard bobbleheads courtesy of KWQC-TV.
