Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings (42-11-2-1) got a pair of goals from Josh Williams and Justin Sourdif as they collected a franchise record 12th consecutive win, beating the Medicine Hat Tigers (10-39-3-1) at Co-Op Place on Wednesday night.

A back-and-forth first period saw the Oil Kings grab a couple of one-goal leads, but both times the Tigers were able to answer to leave the two clubs tied 2-2 after 20 minutes.

Sourdif opened the scoring 5:16 into the game as he wired home a one-timer from the slot on a great setup from Carter Souch and Dylan Guenther who moved the puck from high to low before finding Sourdif for his eighth goal as an Oil King.

Just over 90 seconds later, the Tigers answered back as Logan Barlage redirected a point shot past Edmonton netminder Kolby Hay off a faceoff win.

Just 28 seconds after that, the Oil Kings had the lead again as Williams converted on a breakaway by muscling the puck five-hole on Garin Bjorklund after he was sprung for the chance thanks to a perfect stretch pass from Kaiden Guhle.

With just under five minutes left in the period, Oren Shtrom leveled the score once again as he finished off a three-on-one rush from the right circle after the Oil Kings coughed up the puck in their own zone.

In the second period, Cole Miller staked Edmonton to another lead as he tipped home a shot from the blueline from Dawson Seitz just under five minutes into the middle stanza for his third goal in his last four games.

Once again, the Tigers had an answer as at 11:18 Shtrom picked up his second goal of the evening as he was setup for a one-timer in the slot on a Medicine Hat power play.

The Oil Kings snapped back the lead with under two minutes left in the frame as Hayden Wheddon, playing in his first WHL game, skated to the front of the Medicine Hat net and tipped home a shot from Carter Kowalyk for his first career WHL goal.

Just 51 seconds later, the Oil Kings were able to snag their first multi-goal lead of the game as Williams took another breakaway pass in the neutral zone, this time from Carson Golder, and made a move to his backhands to slip the puck past Bjorklund for his 32nd goal of the season and the 100th of his WHL career.

Jalen Luypen gave Edmonton a three-goal lead just over three minutes into the third period after the Tigers gave the puck away to Golder in the left-circle, he snapped a low shot on net to create a rebound that Luypen stuffed over the goal line for his 23rd of the year.

With 90 seconds left in the game, Sourdif added one more for the Oil Kings as he let fly a shot from inside the blue line that eluded Bjorklund.

Hay picked up his seventh straight win making 21 saves, while Bjorklund made 32 stops in the losing effort. The Oil Kings went zero-for-three on the power play, the Tigers were one-for-three.
