Spokane Chiefs News Release

Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs scored three goals in the third period to secure their third-straight win on Wednesday night against the visiting Vancouver Giants, 5-2.

Vancouver got the scoring started just 37 seconds into regulation when Ethan Semeniuk took advantage of a missed assignment to beat goalie Mason Beaupit low for his seventh goal of the year.

The Chiefs responded quickly - less than two minutes later - to tie it at 1-1 when veteran forward Reed Jacobson tapped the puck into a wide-open net off a perfect feed from Ty Cheveldayoff. Blake Swetlikoff also earned an assist on the play after forcing a turnover on the right wing.

Spokane added to the lead at 1:39 of the second when Blake Swetlikoff rifled a perfect shot top shelf from the low left circle.

Giants captain Zack Ostapchuk knotted it up again with 1:45 left in the period to make it 2-2 into the second intermission.

Spokane took the lead for good just over five minutes into the third period when German forward Yannick Proske sped down the right wing before snapping home his eighth of the year.

The Chiefs made it 4-2 at 11:21 when rookie winger Jake Gudelj copied Proske, flying down the right wing before ripping the puck past young goalie Matthew Hutchison, who was making his first career WHL start.

Ty Cheveldayoff added an empty-netter late to seal the win for the Chiefs, who have now won three-straight and are just two points behind Vancouver for sixth place in the Western Conference.

Beaupit finished the game with 25 saves on 27 shots faced while Hutchison went 28-for-32 in his first WHL action. Both teams went scoreless on the power play.

Spokane hits the road Friday to face Everett before returning to host the Tri-City Americans on Saturday. Related Links
