Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
EDMONTON, ALTA. - Edgars Kulda's heating up, and so are the Edmonton Oil Kings.
The Oil Kings (6-3-0-0) won their third in a row Friday with a 3-1 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders (3-6-0-0) behind two goals from Kulda, who has scored in each of the past three games.
"He's rounding into form because his work ethic has picked right up. You can see a noticeable difference in how he's working away from the puck, which is obviously creating chances for him with the puck," said Oil Kings head coach Steve Hamilton. "It's the Eddie we've come to know over the last two years."
The Oil Kings got off to another hot start Friday, as Blake Orban blasted his second of the season from the point just 1:58 into the game to give Edmonton the early lead.
Kulda notched his third of the year just 2:10 later off a nifty give-and-go play with Mads Eller to put Edmonton up two.
Prince Albert cut the lead in half before the midway point of the first period as Reid Gardiner forced a turnover at centre ice and beat Tristan Jarry on a breakaway, but from there Jarry and the Oil Kings defence locked the game down until Kulda scored in the empty net to ice it.
"I thought we were patient and defended pretty hard," Hamilton said. "You want to maintain your structure, even when you're under pressure. I thought Prince Albert did a really good job keeping pucks alive, but we got some real good saves from Tristan at key times, and we were just able to hold on."
Jarry made 18 saves for his fifth win of the season, while Brandon Ralph picked up his first point of the year with an assist on the empty netter. Edmonton has now won six straight in Prince Albert, dating back to 2012.
Rylan Parenteau made 31 saves for the Raiders in a losing effort.
The Oil Kings will be back in action Saturday night when they wrap up this quick two-game road trip in Saskatoon against the Blades.
