Wheat Kings to Drive Away Hunger

Brandon, MB. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings, in association with Heritage Co-op are pleased to announce that they will be teaming up with Farm Credit Canada and hosting a stop on FCC's Annual Drive Away Hunger tour.

Volunteers from FCC will be collecting food and cash donations before this Saturday's Western Hockey League game between the Wheat Kings and visiting Portland Winterhawks at Westman Communications Group Place.

"To date, we've collected more than 17 million pounds of food through the FCC Drive Away Hunger," says Greg Stewart, FCC President and CEO. "Hunger is an issue that affects many families in rural Canada. FCC Drive Away Hunger is one of the ways we give back to the rural communities where our customers and employees live and work."

All donations collected at the game will go to Brandon's Samaritan House, which is in dire need of non perishable food donations.

"This is an opportunity for Heritage Co-op and the Wheat Kings to assist FCC's Drive Away Hunger program," said Heritage Co-op General Manager Lorne Zacharias. "Because western Manitobans have been so good to us, we are always looking for ways to support our communities...and the Drive Away Hunger tour is another way for us to lend support to a program that will benefit individuals and families in this area."

Each year, FCC partners with local food banks, schools, businesses, community groups and its customers to help fight hunger in Manitoba and across Canada through the Drive Away Hunger program. One hundred per cent of donations go to Canadian food banks, and anyone can visit www.fccdriveawayhunger.ca to make a cash donation.

In addition, the Wheat Kings and PhysioFirst will be hosting another Chuck-a-Puck Saturday night, in support of Brandon's Food for Thought Campaign.

Saturday's game will be the second Wheat King home game of the weekend. Brandon plays host to Swift Current on Friday night.
