
Oil Kings Fall 3-2 at Home

Edmonton, AB - Despite a late third period push the Edmonton Oil Kings suffered only their fourth regulation loss at home on Saturday night as they fell 3-2 to the Vancouver Giants. Edmonton Oilers draft pick Martin Gernat led the way with a pair of assists while Curtis Lazar and Kristians Pelss, also an Oilers draft pick notched the Oil Kings goals.
The Oil Kings trailed most of the evening with both goals coming in the third period and Pelss' coming with under two minutes to play. Edmonton out shot the Giants 15-4 in the third period but could not find the equalizer as their home record dropped to 21-4-1-1. Edmonton's power play was 0 for 3 on the night while the penalty kill held the G-men to 0 for 2 and outshooting the G-men 30-24. Edmonton remains atop the Eastern Conference standings with 72 points and remain tied with idle Tri City for second in the WHL overall standings.
The Oil Kings will now have five days between games before welcoming Matthew Dumba and the Red Deer Rebels on Friday, February 6th. The Oil Kings will have another great giveaway as the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Laurent Brossoit #31 Jersey T-Shirt! Doors open at 6PM with puck drop set for 7PM at Rexall Place - all games this season will be broadcast live on the TEAM 1260 and streamed live at WHL.ca
