Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants finished off their 3 game road trip through Alberta with a 3-2 victory over the top team in the Eastern Conference, the Edmonton Oil Kings. With the win the Giants improve to 2-0 this season against Edmonton.
Brendan Gallagher came into the night on a two game mini slump, but it only took him 6:03 into the first period for him to end it as he banged in a rebound for his 29th goal of the season to put the Giants up 1-0. Vancouver dominated the opening 20 minutes, outshooting the Oil Kings 12-5, but only led 1-0.
In the second period Cain Franson got into the act, scoring his 20th goal of the season on a pretty play to give the Giants a 2-0 lead. That would hold up through 40 minutes.
Anthony Ast gave the Giants the insurance they were looking for early in the third period, converting a nice feed from Taylor Makin to give the Giants a 3-0 advantage. However, the Oil Kings are the top team in the Eastern Conference for good reason. They pushed hard scoring a pair of goals, the second with 1:35 remaining to cut the lead to 3-2. That would be as close as they would come, as the Giants shut the door the rest of the way, winning 3-2. Adam Morrison made 28 saves in the victory.
The Giants now return home to Vancouver in preparation for their next game Friday February 3 vs. the Kamloops Blazers at the Pacific Coliseum. It is Canadian Direct Insurance Legends Night featuring Gordie Howe. 100 lucky fans will get the chance to meet Mr. Hockey and the Giants will wear jersey's to honour the Hockey Hall of Famer. Puck drop is at 7:30 pm. The pregame show begins at 7:00 pm on AM 650.
