Everett Silvertips News Release

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Everett Silvertips moved ahead of Prince George in the Western Conference standings with their second straight win over the Cougars by a final score of 4-3 Saturday night at CN Centre. The Silvertips have now won back-to-back games for the first time this season and stand just four points out of a playoff spot.

Josh Winquist scored twice in the second period for the Silvertips, while Austin Adam and Josh Birkholz notched the other two tallies. Everett held leads of 2-0 and 4-1 before holding off a late Cougars charge to preserve the win. The 'Tips surrendered a season-low 19 shots while finishing with 28 of their own.

The 'Tips scored two goals on their first three shots of the game to take a quick 2-0 lead. Austin Adam got things started just 1:49 in with a long wrister that found the top corner from the point to open the scoring. Everett cashed in a powerplay opportunity less than four minutes later when Josh Birkholz skated into the left circle and snapped a quick shot under Drew Owsley's left pad to put the Silvertips up by a pair. Prince George countered later in the period after Greg Fraser stole a pass in the 'Tips zone and immediately whipped it into the net, making it a 2-1 game after one.

Everett didn't allow the Cougars a shot on net for nearly half of the second frame as Josh Winquist extended the lead. After Ryan Harrison was stopped by Owsley on a breakaway, he picked up his own rebound and put it out front to Winquist for the tap-in at 5:27. Ryan Chynoweth and Jordyn Boyd teamed up two minutes later to get another feed into the low slot for Winquist, who ripped a shot off the crossbar and in to give the 'Tips a 4-1 edge. A Spencer Asuchak powerplay goal got Prince George back within 4-2 heading into the third.

The Cougars made it a one-goal game just 2:18 into the final period when a puck popped out of the corner and onto the tape of Daulton Siwak, who wristed it inside the near post to make it 4-3. Everett allowed only five shots for the remainder of the period and killed off two more Prince George powerplays to complete the weekend sweep.

Kent Simpson (10-24-1-5) stopped 16 shots to earn the win in goal, while Drew Owsley (14-26-0-1) saved 24 in defeat. Both teams finished 1 for 4 on the powerplay.

The Silvertips will now return home for their first five-day break in over a month before heading to Portland to take on the Winterhawks Friday night at 7:00 pm. The club will then continue its road swing with a pair of games at Victoria on February 7 and 8 before a home-and-home set with Vancouver finds them returning to Comcast Arena to face the Giants on Saturday, February 11 at 7:05 pm.
