Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

(Edmonton, AB) - The Anaheim Ducks selected Edmonton Oil Kings defenceman Vojtech Port in the sixth round, 161st-overall, at today's NHL Draft in Nashville, Tennessee.

Port, 17, is coming off his first year in the Western Hockey League that saw him lead all Oil Kings defencemen in scoring with 17 points (4G, 13A) in 48 games, to go along with 16 penalty minutes and a -21 plus/minus rating.

The Jilhlava, Czechia product began the season appearing in two games with the Red Deer Rebels before being claimed off CHL import waivers by the Oil Kings.

"We are so proud as an organization to see Vojtech achieve his dream of being drafted into the NHL," said Oil Kings President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kirt Hill. "This past season, we saw him make great strides in his own game that allowed him to get to this point. He is a big part of our blueline heading into next year and we are excited to see his continued progression."

The 6-foot-2, 173-pound rearguard is the 24th Oil King in modern-franchise history to be selected in the NHL Draft, and the first to be picked by the Ducks organization.
