
Kaden Hammell, Austin Roest Selected in 2023 NHL Draft

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Two Everett Silvertips heard their names called at the 2023 NHL Draft at Bridgestone Arena, as defenseman Kaden Hammell and center Austin Roest were scooped up by the Seattle Kraken and Nashville Predators respectively.
Hammell, an '05-born Langley, B.C. native, was taken in the fifth round with the 148th-overall pick. He becomes the first Silvertips player to be drafted by the Seattle Kraken. Hammell finished the 2022-23 WHL season with eight goals and 18 assists with 128 SOG in 67 games played split between the Kamloops Blazers and Everett Silvertips. Of his 26 points, 16 came as a Silvertip in 31 appearances post-trade deadline. Hammell earned the Iron Man Award at the 2022 Silvertips Team Awards ceremony, having played in all eligible games for his two teams.
Since being drafted 19th-overall in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft, Hammell has skated in 131 career games. He recorded 14 points in 57 games his rookie campaign in 2021-22.
Roest, an '04-born Coldstream, B.C. native, was selected 175th-overall in the sixth round by the Nashville Predators. He finished third amongst all U.S. division skaters in scoring last season with 78 points in 60 games played, behind only Seattle's Jared Davidson (82) and teammate Jackson Berezowski (81). He registered 32 goals and 46 assists, with 21 points coming on the powerplay. Roest also contributed four goals and one assist over five WHL Playoff games.
Roest was honored with the Most Improved Award at the 2023 Silvertip Team Awards ceremony, taking big strides from his 2021-22 campaign in which he scored 13 goals with 19 assists in 59 games played.
Both Hammell and Roest will attend NHL Development Camps beginning July 1. Roest previously attended Colorado Avalanche Development Camp and Rookie Camp in 2022.
