Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Ottawa Senators selected Edmonton Oil Kings forward Carson Latimer with their fourth-round selection, 123rd-overall, on the second day of the 2021 NHL Draft.

"It was pretty wild," said Latimer on finding out he was drafted by the Senators. "I'd talked to them a little bit, and when they had traded up, I'd hoped it would be and then when I saw my name I kind of freaked out. It's one of the coolest experiences of my life and I'm still trying to take it all in, I still don't even believe it just happened. I'm so thankful for all the support from my family, coaches and teammates that helped make this possible."

Latimer, 18, finished this past season with 16 points (5G, 11A), 10 penalty minutes and a +9 plus/minus rating in 22 games. He led all Central Division rookies in scoring during the condensed 2021 WHL season and was named the Central Division Rookie of the Year.

"I'm super happy to be a part of their organization," added Latimer. "I know they've got a really good scouting staff and coach that built a good young team, they've got some emerging stars and are going to be successful in the coming years and I'm really excited to be a part of that."

The Surrey, BC native has played 28 career games with the Oil Kings accumulating 17 points (6G, 11A), 10 penalty minutes and a +11 plus/minus rating since being selected by the team in the third round, 48th-overall, of the 2018 WHL Draft.

The 6-foot-1, 181-pound right-winger becomes the 22nd player in modern franchise history selected from the Oil Kings in the NHL Draft.

Just five picks later, a future Oil King had his name called after the Vegas Golden Knights selected forward Jakub Demek with their fourth-round selection, 128th-overall.

Demek, 18, was drafted in the first round of the 2021 CHL Import Draft by the Oil Kings last month. Earlier this week, the Kosice, Slovakia product signed his WHL Standard Player Agreement committing to play for the Oil Kings this upcoming season.

The 6-foot-4, 196-pound centermen spent part of last season playing professionally for HC Kosice in the Slovak Extraliga, putting up two points (0G, 2A) in 10 games. He also played with the Slovakian U18 team registering 21 points (6G, 15A) in 31 games and played in three exhibition games for the Slovakian U20 team in evaluation for the upcoming World Junior Championship in Edmonton later this year and will play for them again later this month at the Summer Challenge in Germany.
