Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - Michael St. Croix became the first forty goal man in modern franchise history as the Oil Kings were able to pound out a 2-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday night at Rexall Place. St.Croix tallied the first goal of the game early in the second to add to his modern day franchise record for goals scored in a season. He remains the Oil Kings leading scorer and is eighth in the WHL scoring race with 97 points. The Broncos would tie the game on a power play goal just minutes later.
Some stifling system play by the Broncos kept the game tied through most of the three periods. Finally, it was Oilers draft pick Kristians Pelss who snapped home his 24th of the season for the game winner with under three minutes to play in the third.
Edmonton out shot the visitors 34-19 on the night as Tristan Jarry made 18 saves to record his seventh win of the season. The Oil Kings move to 43-15-3-4 on the season and remain atop the Eastern Conference standings with 93 points. Edmonton is four points ahead of the Moose Jaw Warriors for first in the conference and are just three points behind the WHL leading Portland Winterhawks with seven games remaining in the regular season.
The crowd of nearly 8400 included over 1500 scouts who were attending the 2nd Annual Scouts Sleepover. Over 1000 of the scouts in attendance will now spend the night at Rexall Place. The Oil Kings wore special Scouts Canada themed jerseys for the occasion which were auctioned off via silent auction and live auction. Both auctions combined with a jersey raffle helped the Oil Kings gross nearly $11,000 with all net proceeds going to support Scouts Canada.
The Oil Kings are right back at it tomorrow as they play host to Lukas Sutter and the Saskatoon Blades for the Oil Kings Minor hockey wrap up party. This once again promises to be one of the most well attended games of the season with hundreds of young minor hockey players descending on Rexall Place. Puck drops at a family friendly 6PM with doors opening at 5PM
There are just three more regular season games to cash in unused tickets with the Never Waste A Ticket program. Bring a big group to one of our remaining games or bring a fan that's never experienced 'THE OTHER' Oil In Town and get them hooked on Oil Kings Hockey.
