Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Prince Albert, SK - The Edmonton Oil Kings got a 33-save performance from Kolby Hay on Tuesday night as they shutout the Prince Albert Raiders 3-0 at the Art Hauser Centre.
For a fifth straight game, the Oil Kings were able to grab the game's opening goal after Adam Jecho delivered the icebreaker 9:25 into the first period burying a rebound at the side of the Prince Albert net for his third goal in the last two games. Nathan Pilling and Aidan Litke grabbed the assists on Jecho's third goal of the season.
John Szabo increased the Edmonton lead to two at the 13:57 mark after taking a pass from Marshall Finnie in the neutral zone, sprinting into the left-wing circle of the Raiders zone, ripping a wrist shot over the glove of Chase Coward off the crossbar and in for his second goal of the season.
The Oil Kings outshot the Raiders 12-7 in the opening frame and took their 2-0 lead to first intermission.
In the second period, there would be plenty of scoring chances for both Clubs with the Oil Kings outshooting the Raiders 15-13, but only one of those shots would find the back of the net.
With 3:19 left in the middle stanza, and the Oil Kings on a 4-on-3 power play, the Czech Connection struck as Jecho setup Vojtech Port for a one-timer in the left-circle that he powered through Coward to give Edmonton a three-goal lead. The goal was Port's second in as many games.
In the third period, Hay clamped things down in the Edmonton crease stopping all 13 third period shots from the Raiders to preserve the 3-0 win for the Oil Kings.
Hay finished the night making 33 saves for his second career WHL shutout, while Coward made 29 saves for the Raiders. The Oil Kings went 1-for-6 on the power play, the Raiders were 0-for-2.
