>> The Tulsa Oilers returned from a five-game road trip Friday and their homecoming was spoiled by the Allen Americans in a 5-0 loss. Allen enforcer Jacob Doty scored the only goal of the first period, added another in the middle frame to put the Americans up 2-0 at the time, and capped the night's scoring with his first pro hat trick in the final minute of the game. Meanwhile, Americans goaltender C.J. Motte stopped all 33 shots he faced for his second shutout against the Oilers at the BOK Center this season.
Saturday, Jan. 26 - Tulsa 4, Allen 3 (BOK Center - Tulsa, OK) | Box Score
>> A goal from Oilers rookie Jared Thomas 32 seconds into the game sparked a big turnaround Saturday in the middle game of the weekend series. Tulsa rode a three-goal second period to a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Charlie Sampair, Scott Henegar and Ryan Tesink all tallied goals in the middle period to blow the score wide open. Allen staged a strong comeback effort in the third period, scoring twice to pull within a goal, but Tulsa held on to the 4-3 victory, as Evan Fitzpatrick won his tenth game of his rookie season.
Sunday, Jan. 27 - Tulsa 5, Allen 4 (BOK Center - Tulsa, OK) | Box Score
>> In the rubber match of the three-game set, the Americans raced out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a late first period goal and early second period marker. Tulsa tied things up at 2-2 with goals from Jared Thomas and Roman Ammirato just 16 seconds apart. Allen moved back in front by a pair after scoring two goals 51 seconds apart to go up 4-2, but Scott Henegar brought the Oilers back to within one with 3:33 left in the middle frame. There were six combined goals scored in the period, as the Americans led 4-3 entering the third. A Ryan Tesink deflection 8:31 into the third period tied the score once more as the game headed to overtime. After an Allen penalty for too-many-men on the ice, Charlie Sampair provided the heroics with a game-winning power play goal.
