OHL 20 in 20 Futures Watch: Owen Sound Attack
July 17, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
With the Nick Suzuki and Kevin Hancock era behind them, the Owen Sound Attack went about the task of re-loading their offensive arsenal on draft day, taking forwards with their first four picks in April.
The Bears made ALLIANCE Minor Midget Player of the Year Deni Goure the 10th overall pick of the OHL Priority Selection, taking the Chatham-Kent Cyclones star pegged as a natural goal-scorer with a great release. Goure put up 53 points (22-31--53) over 32 games on a Cyclones squad that wasn't overpowering on the scoresheet.
General Manager Dale DeGray and his staff brought in a high-scoring speedster with the selection of Ethan Burroughs at 29th overall. The Halton Hurricanes winger lit the lamp 30 times and picked up 49 points over 31 games in 2018-19.
Goure and Burroughs have committed to the program for the 2019-20 season while big 6-foot-5 42nd overall pick Kaleb Lawrence out of the Ontario Hockey Academy program will join the two at Canada's National Under-17 Development Camp this month in Calgary. The native of Orleans, Ont. recorded 59 points (26-33--59) over 43 games in the HEO Midget AAA circuit.
After selecting Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep standout Artem Shlaine in the third round (56th overall), the Attack added a defenceman to the depth chart in Huron-Perth Lakers rearguard Sam Sedley in the fourth round (70th overall). Big 6-foot-4 Michigan-based goaltender Gibson Homer who competed for TPH Hockey at the OHL Cup was Owen Sound's fourth round (76th overall) pick.
The Bears added a pair of Mississauga Rebels in the fifth round including defenceman Jack Guvenal (87th overall) and centreman Christian Catalano (101st overall).
Owen Sound made a total of 18 picks in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, giving those players plenty to work toward over the summer.
