
Offensive Struggles Continue in 5-1 Loss to Stars

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped their fifth game in a row and fourth-straight to the Huntsville Stars, falling by a score of 5-1 Sunday at Joe Davis Stadium.
Both teams traded zeroes over the first four innings before the Stars broke through in the fifth, getting the game's first run on a squeeze bunt by Kentrail Davis which scored Jason Rogers from third base.
The lead would grow to 2-0 in the sixth on a base hit by D'Vontrey Richardson against starter Scott Snodgress (2-3, 4.34). Snodgress would allow two runs on just three hits over 6.0 IP.
The Stars tacked on three additional runs against reliever Evan Crawford in theseventh inning, getting RBI singles by Mitch Haniger and Shea Vucinich and extending the lead to 5-0.
The Barons narrowly avoided their second shutout loss in a row, getting a two-out RBI single by Kevan Smith in the ninth inning. However, the rally was shortlived as the Barons fell by a score of 5-1. The Barons have scored a total of four runs so far in the first four games of the their series against the Stars.
Smith paced the Barons offense with three hits, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI. Rangel Ravelo and Jeremy Farrell each collected two hits apiece in the losing effort as the Barons outhit the Stars for the second game in a row 10-7.
Stars starter Brent Suter (6-2, 1.96) was dominant at times on Sunday, scatteringeight hits and striking out four over 8.0 shutout IP.
With the loss, the Barons fell to 16-27 on the season while Huntsville improved to 30-14. The Barons will look to salvage the series finale tomorrow night as RHP Mike Recchia (NR) makes his Barons debut against RHP Jacob Barned (0-1, 6.11). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CDT on Monday.
