Suter Superb in Stars Win

Huntsville, AL-The Huntsville Stars got their fourth straight quality start in their series against the Birmingham Barons on Sunday afternoon as Brent Suter threw eight shoutout frames leading the Stars past the Barons 5-1 at Joe Davis Stadium. Huntsville starters have allowed just one run in 28.2 innings in the four games against the Barons.

Scott Snodgress, the Birmingham starter began his day by posting four perfect innings. The Stars finally got to him in the fifth inning.

Kentrail Davis executed a sacrifice bunt scoring Jason Rogers giving the Stars a 1-0 lead. In the sixth inning, D'Vontrey Richardson singled home Josh Prince making it 2-0.

Snodgress(1-3), who took the loss went six innings allowing three hits on two earned runs.

The Stars added three runs in the seventh off Barons reliever Evan Crawford. Mitch Haniger singled into left field scoring Rogers. Then with two outs and two runners on base, Shea Vucinich lined a two-run single into left field.

Suter who improved to 6-2 with his superb start allowed eight hits and struck out four in his eight shutout innings on the mound as he turned it over to the bullpen for the ninth.

Arecenio Leon came in and gave up two singles, one of which was an rbi single to Kevan Smith scoring Chris Curley. Birmingham avoided their second straight shutout on Smith's rbi single.

Richardson went 2-4 with an rbi and Haniger also had a two hit game.

With the win, the Stars are now 30-14 on the season as the Barons fell to 16-27.

The Stars lead the Barons 4-0 in their five-game series and have a chance to sweep Birmingham Monday night. The Stars will send RHP Jacob Barnes(0-1,6.11) to the mound. Birmingham will feature RHP Mike Recchia, who will make his Double-A debut for the Barons. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:15 pm CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM, and wtkiradio.com.
