
Offensive Outburst Lifts Pigs to 11-4 Win

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (25-21) scored 11 runs on 15 hits and picked up an 11-4 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox (23-24) to avoid a three-game sweep on Thursday afternoon at McCoy Stadium.
Four different IronPigs had three-hit games: J.P. Crawford (3-5, 2 R), Cedric Hunter (3-5, HR, 3 RBI, R), Darin Ruf (3-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 3 R) and Nick Williams (3-3, 2B, RBI, 3 R).
The Pigs took an early 3-0 lead with a three-run first as Williams plated a run via an RBI double, Hunter came through with an RBI single and Ruf knocked home another with a sac fly in the inning.
In the bottom of the second, Justin Maxwell led off with a single, advanced to third on a single and scored when Deven Marrero grounded into a force out to bring the PawSox within 3-1.
Pawtucket cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the third as Rusney Castillo started the inning with a single, advanced to second on a single, to third on a fly out and scored on Chris Marrero's sac fly.
Ruf's two-run shot in the top of the fourth off of Red Sox starter Henry Owens opened up a 5-2 lead for the IronPigs.
Owens (3-2) gave up the five runs on six hits while walking five and fanning two in 3.1 IP.
Angelys Nina's solo shot in the top of the fifth off of LHP Robby Scott (2.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 K) gave the Pigs a 6-2 advantage. The home run was Nina's second of the season.
Castillo's solo shot off of Lehigh Valley starter Jake Thompson brought the PawSox within 6-3 in the home half of the frame.
Thompson (3-4) allowed three runs on six hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in 5.2 IP.
A three-run sixth made the score 9-3 in favor of the IronPigs as Hunter hit a two-run blast off of Scott and another run scored when Cam Perkins grounded into a double play. The round-tripper was Hunter's fourth of the year.
Ruf struck again in the top of the eighth with a two-run shot off of LHP Wesley Wright (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, K) to open up an 11-3 lead for the Pigs. The home run was Ruf's second of the day and his fourth of the season.
In the bottom of the eighth, Pawtucket's Ryan LaMarre cut the lead to 11-4 with a solo shot off of RHP Severino Gonzalez (2.1 IP, H, R, ER, BB, K).
RHP Frank Herrmann (1.0 IP, BB, K) tossed a scoreless inning in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The IronPigs will begin a three-game set with the Louisville Bats on Friday night. First pitch from Coca-Cola Park is slated for 7:05 p.m. as a starter yet to be determined for Lehigh Valley will be on the bump against Louisville RHP Robert Stephenson (3-2, 3.02).
