Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla.- The Clearwater Threshers took advantage of late defensive miscues by the Fort Myers Miracle as they took the Wednesday matinee, 5-4 at Bright House Field.

After squandering a two on, no out situation in the 10th, the Threshers saw the same scenario in the 11th.

Pete Lavin led off the frame with a fly out to center before consecutive walks to Chris Swauger and Art Charles set the stage for Logan Moore.

Moore grounded a 1-1 pitch up the middle that was booted by shortstop Jorge Polanco and skidded into centerfield, allowing Swauger to score from second with the winning run.

The victory gives the Threshers just their second extra-innings win on the season.

The Threshers used a two-out rally with nobody on base in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game up at four and extend the game into extras.

Roman Quinn led off the with a groundout to second and KC Serna followed with a fly out before Lavin reached on a catcher's interference to give the Threshers new life.

Swauger advanced Lavin to second with a single to left and the Threshers had two runners on for Charles.

After battling through eight pitches, Charles took advantage of a fastball up in the zone and drilled it out to right-centerfield to tie the game.

Fort Myers (29-22) got on the board early against Threshers' starter Colin Kleven. Polanco led off the game with a triple to left-centerfield and was brought home one batter later when Aderling Mejia singled with a liner to right, putting the Miracle up 1-0.

Kleven would settle down after the first, allowing just one base runner the next three innings. However, he would permit Fort Myers to pad onto its lead in the fifth, giving up two runs on one hit.

Kleven had a solid line, lasting six innings and allowing just the three runs for the quality start.

Shawn Camp made his Threshers' debut, relieving Kleven in the seventh. The 38-year-old reliever had three strikeouts in two innings, but did allow a solo homerun, putting the Threshers in a 4-1 hole.

Clearwater (11-40) was able to cut into the Fort Myers' lead in the seventh when Serna led off the inning with a bunt single. After advancing to third on a fielder's choice and a wild pitch, Serna scored on a Swauger sacrifice fly to shallow left-center, making it a 4-1 ballgame.

Serna extended his hitting streak to eight games with a 2-for-5 day.

Lee Ridenhour took the ninth and 10th for the Threshers and struck out three without allowing a base runner.

Jordan Guth (1-1) finished off the game for Clearwater by pitching the 11th. After getting a double play, Guth allowed singles to the next two batters before getting Niko Goodrum to ground out to end the Miracle's threat.

The Threshers will take on Fort Myers in game three of a four-game set Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. The game can be heard live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6:45 with Threshers Live! the pregame show.
