Lakeshore Chinooks News Release

For a third consecutive day, the Lakeshore Chinooks got a great pitching performance but the offense was unable to push across a run in a 3-0 loss to the Battle Creek Bombers from C.O Brown Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Since a ten run explosion featuring 11 hits and 2 home runs on opening night from Kapco Park, the Chinooks have been unable to pick up a timely hit to crack the pay window.

The starting pitching was once again outstanding Sunday. Eric Anderson (University of Missouri) held the Bombers off the scoreboard for five innings allowing just four hits.

In the sixth, Battle Creek got a leadoff single from Jordan Winawer who then stole second. Cam Gibson (son of Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson) followed with a walk. The pair moved up on a passed ball putting runners at second and third. Winawer scored on another passed ball to make it 1-0 Bombers. Gibson followed suit on a wild pitch, moving the lead to two.

The Chinooks had a pair of chances early in the ballgame to score but were unable to do so. In the second, Lakeshore put runners at second and third with two outs on a Marty Herum (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater) double but Jared Fon (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater) grounded to first to end the inning. In the fourth, Lakeshore put two on. After a passed ball moved Ryan Krill (Michigan State University) and Mikole Pierce (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater) to second and third, Herum flew out to center.

In total the team picked up five hits and stranded six runners on base.

The two-game series wraps up tomorrow evening from Battle Creek before the Chinooks return to Kapco Park for a four game home stand with Eau Claire and La Crosse starting Tuesday at 6:35.
