Florence, Ky. - The Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, put up a season-high 13 runs in a 13-8 game-two victory over the Normal CornBelters.

In earning their fourth straight win, all nine Freedom players reached base, eight of them scored runs, and seven recorded RBIs. In total, the Freedom (12-25) finished with 10 hits and 11 walks, while Isaac Wenrich launched the Freedom's first grand slam of the season.

Florence put the game's first run on the board for the fifth straight game. In the second inning, Collins Cuthrell smashed a double to left-center field, then moved to third on a single from Wenrich. After a lengthy at bat, Josh Henderson grounded a ball to the right side, scoring Cuthrell to put the Freedom ahead.

A three-spot pushed the Freedom's advantage to 4-0 after three innings. Cuthrell delivered one of his two sacrifice flies after singles from Taylor Oldham and Richard Seigel. Oldham, Seigel, and Andrew Godbold, who reached on an error, all came around to score in the frame.

After another run in the fourth, the Freedom blew the game open with a five-run sixth. Four walks issued from Normal pitching plated the sixth run. Then, with two outs, Wenrich hit a blast to right-center field for a grand slam, extending the Freedom's lead to 10-1.

Patrick McGrath was stellar in his first five innings, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the first and scattering three hits over the next four frames. The defense provided a big assist as Oldham made a couple of great plays at third base and Cuthrell made an unbelievable catch in the first, running all the way to the warning track and sliding into the wall.

Despite the large deficit, Normal (15-23) fought back to within two in the seventh. Three Freedom pitchers (McGrath, Pete Levitt, and TJ Bozeman) combined to allow seven runs, four hits, and five walks, pulling the score to 10-8.

In perhaps the biggest inning for the Freedom, they responded with a three-spot. Travis Weaver led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk, Daniel Fraga followed with a single and then Oldham walked to load the bases. Newell's RBI single put Florence ahead 11-8. Two more runs crossed the plate in the inning on a walk from Seigel and a sacrifice fly from Cuthrell.

Now with a 13-8 lead, the backend of the Florence bullpen held steady. Matt Pobereyko struck out the side in the eighth and Tony Vocca allowed just two base runners in the ninth on his way to closing out the ballgame.

The Freedom received contributions up and down the lineup. Newell finished with a team-high three hits, while Wenrich knocked in four on his grand slam. McGrath's solid start earned him the win.

R.J. Perucki had three hits for Normal, while Michael Schweiss took the loss.

The Freedom look to finish off their first sweep of the season tomorrow against Normal. Cody Gray (1-0, 3.60 ERA) will take the hill for the first time at UC Health Stadium this season against Max Homick (3-3, 2.58 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
