FREDERICK, MD (APRIL 12, 2012) - The Dash scored the first eight runs of the game and held on for an 8-5 victory over the Frederick Keys in a rubber match Thursday night at Harry Grove Stadium.

Winston-Salem (3-3) finishes its season-opening road trip at the .500 mark. Offensively, the Dash scored 21 runs in the last two contests. The last time Winston-Salem scored more than 21 runs in consecutive games was May 21 and 22, 2010, when the club scored 24 times.

One night after plating a Carolina League-high seven runs in the first, the Dash took a 2-0 advantage before Frederick (3-3) saw a pitch. Nick Ciolli reached on an error, and Carlos Sanchez chased him home with a double to left-center. Two batters later, Dan Black brought Sanchez to the plate on an RBI groundout. Both runs were unearned in the frame.

Three innings later, Winston-Salem doubled up its lead. With the bases loaded, Marcus Semien poked a two-run single to left-center for his first two runs batted in this season.

The top position prospect in the White Sox system added to the Dash's lead in the fifth. Trayce Thompson, the third overall farmhand in Chicago's system according to Baseball America, cleared the fences in right field for a two-run blast, his first homer of the season. Winston-Salem homered five times during the three-game set.

Winston-Salem finished roughing up Frederick starter Kyle Simon (0-1) in the sixth with two more runs. Daniel Wagner walked with the bases loaded, and the second run scored via a wild pitch. Simon worked five and a third frames and gave up eight runs, four of which were earned, on seven hits.

Jake Petricka (1-1) posted the longest start by a Winston-Salem hurler this season. The right-hander held the Keys scoreless through the first five innings before running into a bit of trouble in the sixth. Petricka surrendered four runs on six hits. The big blow in the five-run sixth for Frederick was Aaron Baker's three-run homer against reliever Nick McCully, who inherited a pair of runners before Baker's blast.

McCully finished the sixth inning and dealt a perfect seventh before giving way to Chris Bassitt. Bassitt steered out of a jam in the eighth with a double play. He then worked around a pair of walks in the ninth to earn his first save.

The Dash open up their home schedule Friday against first-place Carolina at BB&T Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and Andre Rienzo (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will toe the rubber against southpaw Mike Rayl (0-1, 11.25 ERA). Pre-game coverage on wsdash.com begins at 6:45.
