Delaware Women's Basketball to be Honored on Opening Night

Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks are rolling out the red carpet for all the local celebrities on Opening Night, as they usher in the 20th season of Blue Rocks baseball in Wilmington.

Members of the 2011-2012 University of Delaware women's basketball team will be honored on Friday, April 13th before the 2012 Rocks' home opener against the Frederick Keys (Baltimore Orioles) at 7:05 p.m. This past season the Blue Hens went 31-2, including an 18-0 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Hens won the CAA conference regular season, the CAA tournament and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They finished the season ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press Top 25 Media Poll.

Also before the game, U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons (both D-Del.) will throw ceremonial first pitches. Carper has served at the Senate since 2001. He was the governor of Delaware for two terms starting in 1993 and was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983-1992.

Coons has been at the Senate since November of 2010. He was the County Executive of New Castle County for nearly six years and was the President of the New Castle County Council from 2001-2004.

Jason Adam gets the start against right-hander Scott Copeland. Broadcast coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. as studio host Rob Cunningham brings fans the Rocks Report Pre-game Show, presented by Wawa, on 89.7 WGLS-FM and online at wgls.rowan.edu.
