Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - Finding themselves down 8-0 in the sixth inning, the Frederick Keys battled back to put five runs on the board to draw within three, but that's as close as they would get, ultimately losing 8-5.

With the loss, the Keys level out to 3-3 while Winston-Salem improves their mark to 3-3.

Kyle Simon (0-1, 7.27 ERA) was charged with the loss after going 5.1 innings, giving up eight runs - only four of which were earned - on seven hits and two walks.

Across the way, Jake Petricka (1-1, 6.75 ERA) was masterful for the first five innings pitched, getting the win after giving up four runs on six hits. All four runs came against Petricka in the sixth inning, when Petricka was eventually chased out of the game.

Down 8-0 in the sixth inning, the Keys put five runs on the board, starting with a single from catcher Joe Oliveira. A double from shortstop Michael Rooney drove in Oliveira to give the Keys their first run of the game. A walk from outfielder Trent Mummey and an RBI single from Ronnie Welty brought the Keys to within six, but it was Aaron Baker's three-run homerun that put the Keys back in the ballgame as they trailed just 8-5.

Yet that's all the Keys could muster as they fell 8-5 in the rubber match.

Surrendering two unearned runs in the first inning, the Keys soon found themselves down 8-0 after giving up six runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

The Dash got the scoring binge started when second baseman Marcus Semian drove in two runs by lining a pitch to centerfield. The very next inning, outfielder Trayce Thompson hit a two-run homerun to provide the Dash a 6-0 advantage.

The Dash tacked on two more runs when a wild pitch from relief pitcher Andy Loomis allowed a run to score. Two batters later, Loomis walked in another run to make the score 8-0 Dash.

The Keys would respond, putting five runs on the board, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome their sever deficit early on.

The Keys look to rebound on Friday night when the travel to play the Wilmington Blue Rocks in their home opener. Scott Copeland (1-0, 0.00 ERA) takes the mound for Frederick against Jason Adam (0-0, 1.80 ERA).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Coverage starts at 6:45 on 1450 AM The Source and online at wthu.com.
