Potomac Nationals News Release
(MYRTLE BEACH, SC) - The Potomac Nationals dropped game three of a three-game series in Myrtle Beach 1-0. The Pelicans scored on an error on a controversial ball hit down the left field line by Jake Skole.
Both starters had no trouble. For Myrtle Beach, RHP Cody Buckel faced the minimum 18 batters through six innings while striking out nine and walking none. He gave up a lead off double to Michael Taylor but that was the only Potomac batter to reach second against Buckel.
Potomac's hurler RHP Kyle Winters was outstanding tossing six scoreless innings striking out seven batters including all three in the sixth. He didn't walk anyone and scattered three hits.
The Pelicans broke through in the ninth off Cameron Selik. Jared Hoying singled and advanced to second on a sac bunt. Then with two outs, a short pop up down the left field line went off the glove of a leaping Kevin Keyes. The ball was ruled fair as it was right on the line to the protest of Nationals players to give the Pelicans a 1-0 win.
Both bullpens continued throwing up zeros on the TicketReturn.com Field scoreboard. The Pelicans Ben Rowen threw three frames without giving up a run while Rob Wort worked two scoreless for Potomac.
The Nationals open their home schedule with the Lynchburg Hillcats tomorrow night at the Pfitz at 7:05 p.m. Join us in Woodbridge to cheer on the 2012 P-Nats by calling our ticket office at 703-590-2311.
