Madison, WI - Patrick Boyle (Drew University) threw five scoreless innings in which he only allowed three base runners, yet the Mallards weren't able to take advantage of his strong outing. Madison dropped their second game in a row after starting the season 6-0, falling to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 4-2.

In his first appearance of 2016, Troy Bacon (Santa Fe College) took the loss, allowing four runs in an inning and a third. Bacon only allowed two hits, one of which being a home run, but wild pitches and walks seemed to be his downfall.

The bullpen got little help from the Mallards lineup, as they recorded only five hits and two runs in the ballgame. The Mallards jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three frames, but were not able to take advantage of any opportunities late in the game. Cameron Frost (Washington State) managed a 2-for-4 outing, while several other Mallards went hitless. The Mallards left more men on base than they hit safely.

"Sometimes you just have those days," said Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville University). "We sat on the lead and got too relaxed."

Cameron Busby (Georgia College) got the win, as the submariner pitched 3.2 hitless innings in relief. He struck out two and never looked rattled. He only allowed one base runner in his outing, allowing a 3-2 walk with two outs in the ninth.

Madison will travel to Lakeshore tomorrow to take on the Chinooks. Donnie Scott will give the ball to left-hander Mike Reitcheck (Pennsylvania), who struck out six over five innings in his last start.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond Thursday, June 9th, to take on the Lakeshore Chinooks. The game will feature Juggling Josh Horton. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
