Swift Current Broncos News Release

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (4-7-2-1) offence came to life Saturday night against the Lethbridge Hurricanes (5-7-0-0) as six different players scored in a 7-2 win.

The Hurricanes opened the scoring in the game when Joe Arntsen took a centering pass from the goal line and beat Reid Dyck under the glove for his first goal of the season.

The Broncos tied the game just a few minutes later as Caleb Wyrostok took a pass from Rylan Gould and took off through centre. Noah Boyko was the lone man back for Lethbridge, a forward, so Wyrostok blew past him and came in on net, lifting a shot over the glove of Jared Picklyk to tie the game.

Mathew Ward then stole the puck at the Hurricanes blue line and came down the left wing, firing a shot through the five hole of Picklyk to give the Broncos a 2-1 lead after the first period.

The Hurricanes took control of the game in the opening minutes of the second, hemming the Broncos in their own zone for minutes at a time. Dyck held the fort to keep the Broncos up 2-1 before Swift Current added to their lead against the flow of play.

The Broncos stole the puck in the Hurricanes zone and Raphael Pelletier centered for Josh Filmon whose shot missed the net. The rebound came off the end wall right to Ward who fired home his second of the game to give the Broncos a 3-1 lead.

Ward then forced another turnover by the Hurricanes, this time while shorthanded, allowing Pelletier to pick up the loose puck and skate in on a breakaway, beating Picklyk over the blocker to push the lead to 4-1.

Lethbridge scored a power play goal late in the period to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Broncos responded immediately to restore the three-goal lead.

Ward dropped the puck for Pelletier in the right circle of the Hurricanes zone, and Pelletier found Filmon heading to the front of the net. The pass went right to the tape of Filmon who tapped the puck into the open net to give the Broncos a 5-2 lead heading into the third period.

The score remained 5-2 until the final minutes of the game when Wyrostok blocked a hard slap shot, leading to a 2-on-1 rush. Wyrostok sent the puck across for Gould who pulled it to his backhand and lifted it past Picklyk for his second of the season.

Just 25 seconds later, Karson King took a flip pass through centre and fired a shot on net from the left wing. His shot was stopped, but the rebound came to Kayden Sadhra-Kang who knocked it in, scoring his first WHL goal against his former team.

The Broncos now have a full week of practice before their siz-game homestand resumes Friday night with the Calgary Hitmen in town.

Announced attendance was 1,469.
