Mathew Ward Named WHL Player of the Week

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Swift Current Broncos forward Mathew Ward has been named the WHL's Player of the Week for the week ending November 7.

Ward, from Kamloops, B.C., played three games throughout the week recording three goals and four assists as the Broncos went 2-0-0-1.

Wednesday night in Saskatoon Ward picked up one assist as the Broncos fell to the Blades 4-3 in a shootout.

Friday at home against the Medicine Hat Tigers Ward scored a goal and an assist helping lead the Broncos to a 3-2 win. In four games against Medicine Hat this season, Ward has recorded three goals and five assists.

Ward wrapped up the week with a career showing Saturday night against the Lethbridge Hurricanes by scoring twice, including the game winner, and adding two assists in a 7-2 win. He also recorded seven shots on net, won 11 of 15 faceoffs and was a +5. It was Ward's first career two-goal game and second career four-point performance.

In 13 games this season Ward is now up to seven goals and 10 assists, surpassing the six goals he scored during his rookie season in the Regina Hub.

Ward and his teammates are back on the ice Friday night at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex as the Broncos continue their six-game homestand by hosting the Calgary Hitmen.
