Akron RubberDucks News Release

AKRON, OH - The Cleveland Indians announced Saturday that Akron Aeros outfielder Nick Weglarz has been designated for assignment. The Indians now have ten days to trade, release or outright Weglarz. In order to be re-signed by the Tribe, Weglarz must clear waivers.

Weglarz, 24, hit .202 with three homers and 12 RBI's in 24 games for the Aeros this year. This is Weglarz's eighth season since being drafted in the third round in 2005, out of Stevensville, Ontario. He has hit 71 career home runs in the Indians organization.

Last season, Weglarz was limited to 41 games, due to a series of injuries. He hit .179 with three home runs and 12 RBI's with Akron in 2011.

The Indians purchased the contract of infielder Jose Lopez from Triple-A Columbus on Saturday, necessitating the need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.

The Aeros roster now stands at 22 players.

The Aeros will begin a brief, three-game road trip to Erie on Monday night at 6:35. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
