WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JUNE 28, 2011) - The Winston-Salem Dash announced today that INF Jake Oester has been promoted to AA Birmingham. In a corresponding roster move, RHP Orlando Santos rejoins the Dash from low-A Kannapolis.
Oester was hitting .252 with one home run and 16 RBI in 38 games with the Dash this season. He began the year with low-A Kannapolis and was sent to Winston-Salem on April 21. Oester hit 2-for-19 (.105) with two RBI in six games with the Intimidators. He started his time in Winston-Salem with an eight-game hitting streak (.433, 13-30) and had three multi-hit games and four RBI during that span.
The Cincinnati native signed with the White Sox as a non-drafted free agent in January 2010 out of the University of Toledo. He was teammates with current Dash RHP Justin Collop at Toledo, and was co-captain of the team in 2009. He spent 2010 with Kannapolis where he hit .207 with two home runs and 21 RBI. His father, Ron, played for the Cincinnati Reds from 1978-90 and was a backup second baseman on the 1990 World Series champion Reds.
Santos starts his second stint of the season with Winston-Salem. He began the season with the Dash and compiled an ERA of 8.82 in ten appearances. Santos was 2-1 before he was sent to Kannapolis on May 13. With the Intimidators, he excelled, putting up a 2-0 record with one save and a 1.08 ERA in 12 games. In 25 innings he walked six and struck out 22. He was originally signed by the White Sox as a free agent in 2006 and spent his first four years in the system as a catcher. Santos converted to a pitcher before the 2009 season and registered a 3.05 ERA in 45 games out of the bullpen in 2009 and 2010.
The Dash roster is still at 24 players, one below the Carolina League limit.
