Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Odessa, TX) - The Odessa Jackalopes opened up their home season with two losses to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and Arizona Sundogs over the weekend. The team did still earn a point in the standings with their shootout loss to Arizona, and maintains it hold on first place in the Southwest Division.
Last week's record: 1-1-1
Up next: Thursday @ LAR, Friday @ RGV, Saturday @ TEX
Tuesday at Amarillo, 7-1 Win
The Jackalopes scored seven goals for the third time in five games last Tuesday when they beat the Gorillas in their first meeting of the season. It was Alexandre Vincent's first start of the season since joining the Jacks, stopping 30 of 31 shots. Six different players scored goals for Odessa, including Kory Karlander, who had a pair of goals and an assist.
Friday vs. Rio Grande Valley, 2-1 Loss
Killer Bees goalie, Wylie Rogers, stopped 53 of 54 Odessa shots and was named the first star of the game. The Jackalopes had 11 power play opportunities, but failed to capitalize on them. Juha Toivonen was a bright spot in net for Odessa making 21 saves, and allowing two goals or less for the fourth time in five starts this season.
Saturday vs. Arizona, 3-2 (SO) Loss
It was 2-2 at the end of regulation and overtime between the Jacks and Sundogs. Odessa forward Jeff Pierce scored the only shootout goal for the Jacks, while Derek Legault and Joel Irving scored for the Sundogs. Irving's goal was the game winner. Kory Karlander and Sebastien Thinel were the Odessa goal-scorers during regulation play.
Thursday @ Laredo, 7:00 PM
It's the first meeting between Odessa and Laredo since last year's second-round playoff match, when Laredo swept the Jacks in four games. Last season's CHL MVP, Jeff Bes, has picked up right where he left off with 14 points (two goals, 12 assists) in eight games this year.
Friday @ Rio Grande Valley, 7:35 PM
The Jacks will look to avenge last Friday's loss at Dodge Arena against the Killer Bees, who remain as the only CHL team yet to lose a game this season. Wylie Rogers continues to play well in goal allowing just six goals in four starts this year (1.57 GAA) and stopping 95.7% of the shots he's faced.
Saturday @ Texas, 7:05 PM
It will be the second meeting this season between the Brahmas and the Jacks. Texas gave Odessa their first loss of the season in a 7-3 game back on October 25th. Since scoring five points (two goals, three assists) in that win over the Jacks, Brahmas' center Scott Sheppard has just a goal and an assist in two games.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is currently in its 12th season. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
