Arizona Sundogs News Release
The Arizona Sundogs finished their five game road trip with a 2-3-0 record, improving to 3-5-0 on the season. Arizona topped Amarillo by a 6-3 mark on Friday night and beat Odessa 3-2 in a shootout for their first winning streak of the young season. Looking to make it three-in-a-row, the Sundogs fell 3-2 to the Gorillas on Sunday afternoon. Arizona sits three points back of Odessa and the division lead and prepares for five consecutive home games at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.
Sundogs Storylines:
- Sundogs forwards Joel Irving (5-5-10) and Martin Gascon (3-7-10) lead the way in scoring for Arizona with ten points each. Irving collected the game-winner in his club's 3-2 shootout win over Odessa on Saturday night.
- Sundogs mainstay Karl Sellan leads his club in goals with six (6th in CHL) and ranks second in points (8) and plus-minus (+5). He leads the CHL in penalty minutes with 66 PIM.
- The Sundogs had the best power play unit in the league last season at 26.82%, just .70 percentage points shy of the CHL record (27.5% - Columbus 1996-97). Early on this season however, the Sundogs have struggled with the man advantage, converting on just 9-of-72 opportunities (12.5%).
- The Arizona Sundogs had the league's most potent offense last season, scoring an average of 4.59 goals per game. No other team eclipsed the four goal average, with Colorado's 3.97 average being the second highest in the league. Arizona's offense has been held in check so far this season, scoring just 25 goals in eight games (3.125 goals per game average).
- Last year, Arizona was 3-1-0 overall (2-0-0 at Tim's Toyota Center - both wins came in OT) against Corpus Christi.
