Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
Tonight was the 45th game of the Malmö Oat Milkers' inaugural season. This MiLB sponsorship introduces a "brand new team" that is actually a promotion that every MiLB team participates in. They will don the "Malmö Oat Milkers" jerseys and brand themselves as the 121st team in MiLB.
In the real final box score, the Lake Elsinore Storm were beaten 10-4 by the Stockton Ports in the first game of the homestand. The game started in a far different way than it finished. After a 1-2-3 inning from Storm starting pitcher Luis Gutierrez, Leodalis De Vries led off the next inning with a double. Rosman Verdugo and Romeo Sanabria would then smack hard-hit singles to center and left field to bring De Vries home.
In the fourth inning, with the Storm still leading 1-0, Nick Vogt would send his first home run of the year over the left-centerfield wall to double the lead. In the fifth inning, Lake Elsinore would score two more times on Ports miscues and take a commanding 4-0 lead.
Gutierrez would then take the mound as he attempted to finish six innings of work. After allowing a single, he would hit the next batter he faced. He would rebound by striking out the next batter, however, another single would load the bases with one out. This would be enough to get Gutierrez removed from the mound.
Keegan Collet would be his replacement and would allow seven runs to score.
This would be enough to end the game. The Storm would not record a hit for the rest of the game as they lost game one of the homestand.
Just eight games are remaining in the first half. Those 66 total games will decide who will win the California League South. The Storm currently lead the Quakes in the standings by two games which puts their magic number at six.
