Oaks Try to Tame Mavs
June 1, 2006 - California League (CalL1)
Visalia Rawhide News Release
The Visalia Oaks will begin their first series against the High Desert Mavericks, Cal League Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals this weekend in the High Desert. Visalia is in the midst of a six game roadtrip to Inland Empire and High Desert. The Oaks dropped two of three games to the 66ers, including a day game Thursday, after winning the series opener. The Mavericks had taken two of the first three games of their series at the Lake Elsinore Storm. Entering Thursday, the Mavs had won two in a row, their first consecutive wins in two weeks.
With the Oaks loss Thursday, Visalia slipped to 8.5 games behind the San Jose Giants, who continue to lead the Northern Division. Prior to their game Thursday, the Mavericks sat eight games behind the Southern Division leading 66ers, holders of the League's best record at 33-20.
Expect lots of offense in the Oaks-Mavs series. The Oaks (5.26) is ninth, and the Mavericks 5.35 mark is the worst in the league. Visalia has struck out the fewest batters in the League this year (352). However, the offense remains the League's most prolific with 297 runs scored. High Desert, before the Mavs game Thursday, was second from the bottom in runs scored (237).
Visalia was 3-6 against the Mavericks a year ago.
