NYRB II Hosts Indy Eleven for First Time Since 2019
July 15, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New York Red Bulls II News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - New York Red Bulls II (1-14-3, 6 points) return home to host Indy Eleven (6-9-3, 21 points) on Friday, July 15, at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on ESPN+.
Friday's match will mark the second meeting of the season, as Indy took the first 2-0 on Saturday, May 21. Indy leads the all-time series 4-2-0, but New York has claimed both matches at home. Indy will visit MSU Soccer Park for the first time since the 2019 season, where it fell 2-1 to New York on a second half goal by Tom Barlow. Prior to the match in May, the previous three matches between the clubs were decided by one goal.
The two clubs will look to bounce back following defeats in their last match. Red Bulls II fell to Louisville City FC, 6-0, while Indy fell to Detroit City FC, 1-0, with both matches on Saturday, July 9.
Indy is led by the duo of Stéfano Pinho and Manuel Arteaga, who have seven and five goals on the season, respectively. Last week, the club acquired goalkeeper Sean Lewis in a trade that sent Noah Powder to FC Tulsa. Lewis had made 12 starts with Tulsa during the 2022 season, recording 40 saves.
Red Bulls Academy midfielder Sam Williams is two minutes away from becoming the first Academy player in club history to reach 2,000 minutes with Red Bulls II. Williams already has the Academy player club record for matches at 36 and counting.
New York sits 14th in the Eastern Conference, while Indy ranks 9th.
Following the match, New York will travel to face USL Championship newcomers Monterey Bay F.C. on Saturday, July 23. Kickoff at Cardinale Stadium is set for 10:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN+.
