El Paso Locomotive FC News Release
EL PASO, Texas - El Paso Locomotive FC (9-6-6, 33 pts., West-5) travels to Oakland, California to take on Oakland Roots SC (5-6-10, 25 pts., West-9) at Laney College Football Stadium on Saturday, July 16. The match is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Locomotive and Oakland met earlier this season at Southwest University Park with the two teams splitting the points after a 1-1 draw. Forward Lucho Solignac played the catalyst that would equalize the scoring for El Paso Locomotive, playing the ball off a Roots defender to force an own goal and secure the point at home. Now three months later, the two will meet again with Locomotive FC's first trip to Laney College Football Stadium.
Saturday night's clash will feature the league's current Golden Boot leader against the league's current leader in clean sheets. After 21 games, Oakland Roots' Ottar Karlsson has earned 13 goals to lead the Oakland offense. Meanwhile, Locomotive Goalkeeper Evan Newton has been stalwart in the defense, to lead the league with eight clean sheets and to sit second in the league in saves with 57. The thrilling offense vs defense match will be pivotal for both teams as the two continue deep into the second half of the season. The Locos are seeking to cement its playoff position as it continues on its 10-game undefeated streak following a massive 1-0 win over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. On the other end, Oakland Roots is looking to break into the playoff race by returning to winning ways after turning a 1-2-2 record in its last five games.
