NWHL News: Olympian Anne Schleper Joins Buffalo Beauts

Buffalo, NY- Anne Schleper will join the Buffalo Beauts for the 2016-17 season, General Manager Ric Seiling announced Sunday. Schleper and the Beauts agreed to terms on a one-year, $21,000 contract.

"Anne is a current US National Team player who will be reuniting with her former collegiate teammates and competitors," said Seiling. "With the addition of Anne on our blue line, we will not only strengthen our defensive core, but will also be a threat when we are in the offensive zone."

Schleper graduated from the University of Minnesota, where she played 159 games with the Golden Gophers. The defenseman scored 114 points (32g, 82a) in her collegiate career. Schleper has played with USA Hockey in five Four Nations Cup tournaments, four IIHF World Championships, and the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

Schleper previously played for the Minnesota Whitecaps, who played an exhibition series against the Boston Pride last season.

Restricted free agency began on April 1 and lasted until April 30. Free agency began May 1 and lasts until July 31. The 2016 NWHL Draft was on June 18.

About the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL)

The NWHL is the first professional women's hockey league in North America to pay its players. The inaugural season began October 11, 2015 with the Founding Four: Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale and New York Riveters. The Boston Pride became the first team in NWHL history to raise the Isobel Cup on March 12, 2016.
