TAMPA - RHP Ivan Nova made his first Major League rehab start with the Tampa Yankees (29-28) and pitched into the fifth inning in a 3-2 loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads (28-29) on Monday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Nova's start was his first since having Tommy John surgery on April 26, 2014. The right-hander tossed 72 pitches in his four and two-third innings of work, tallying 55 for strikes. Nova surrendered two runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out three while not allowing a walk. His fastball topped out at 94 mph.

Gregorio Petit also began a rehab assignment with the Yankees, batting second and playing second base. The Yankee infielder went 1-for-2 with a walk and committed two errors in the field. Petit is currently on the 15-day disabled list after suffering a right hand contusion on May 6th.

The T-Yanks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second. Mike Ford flew a double into left-center field and advanced on a single by Dante Bichette Jr. A wild pitch by RHP Jose Adames scored Ford before Kyle Higashioka reached on a fielding error at third by Brian Anderson. An infield single by Michael O'Neill loaded the bases and Derek Toadvine drove home Bichette with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Jupiter cut the lead in half in the third with the help of three defensive errors by Tampa. An error by Bichette at third put Chris Hoo at first. Yefri Perez bounced a ball to second, where Petit misplayed a force play at the bag. A fielder's choice ground ball from Avery Romero placed runner on the corners with two outs. Austin Dean then grounded a ball to Petit, who bobbled it to his right and allowed Hoo to score.

The Hammerheads tied the game in the fifth. Harold Riggins singled off Nova to begin the frame. A wild pick-off attempt moved Riggins up to second. Two outs later, Romero singled home the tying run. RHP Cale Coshow entered and retired Dean with one pitch to end the inning.

Riggins gave Jupiter the lead in the seventh by curling a fly ball inside the foul pole behind the 314 ft. sign in right field. It was the first home run allowed Coshow since 2013.

Coshow (2-1) pitched a season-high four and a third innings, allowing one run on three hits. The righty struck out five and did not allow a walk.

The Jupiter bullpen held the Yankees to a pair of hits in five scoreless innings. RHP Esmerling De La Rosa (1-4) got the win after yielding one hit and striking out one batter in two shutout frames. RHP Tyler Kinley earned his ninth save by dealing a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The series continues on Tuesday when RHP Gabriel Encinas (1-1, 2.48 ERA) takes the hill for the T-Yanks. LHP Jarlin Garcia (1-1, 2.30 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Hammerheads. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
