QUOTES
New York City FC Head Coach Ronny Delia:
On the win in the home opener...
"I'm of course very proud of their performance. I think the boys did really good. It's tough coming from a disappointing game in the first game of the season. We wanted to show our fans and show everyone we're a good team."
On what changed in the second half...
"I think we were structured in the first half. It was an even first half, but I think in the second half we started to really play even more like we wanted to. We moved the ball quicker; we pressed them really good. We got good opportunities that made the game more easy for us. I also loved to see how fit we are and we can keep on going. We never stop. That's what you want when you get a team under control like we did. You have to keep on scoring goals and enjoying the game and we did that. It was really good."
On moving on from a loss (last week vs D.C. United)...
"A lot of experience. Being in this game for many years, I can feel the atmosphere in the dressing room. I think it's that simple. I also have a really good staff around me, so I listen to them and talk with them all the time. I talk with my players as a team and as a group about decisions. We need to keep on training good, but at the same time we have to keep the flow. We've gotten the first win and now we have a tough game in Philadelphia. Everything is possible when we are playing at our best."
New York City FC Forward Andres Jasson
On his first game starting...
"It was amazing to make the first start in Yankee Stadium in front of family and friends and to play in front of them. I think it was a real moment that you kind of dream about, but then as soon as warmups start you have to focus on the game and make sure you do your job, do what needs to be done. I think I had to do a good job in taking the moment in but also making sure I was ready to go. In the second half obviously it opened up a bit more and I think they needed more going forward, they were looking for a goal, so that opened it up more on the transition and you can see that in the transitional moments for us going forward. I think a lot of that is the fitness that we have, a lot of players can run back and forth and we have been working along that so it opened a bit in the second half."
On having fans back in Yankee Stadium...
"It's unbelievable to have fans back and to see them and have them cheer when Sean makes a save and when we make a tackle, or when we score a goal. It gives you a bit of extra energy and boost. It was amazing to get the win in front of them, it's never a bad time to have fans and it could never be underestimated how much they do for us."
New York City FC Forward Jesus Medina
On todays performance...
"It was a great win. I think we played well, we had good possession with the ball, we finished several chances we had, and I think we're happy to play in front of our fans here at Yankee Stadium. We are happy for the victory and for the way we were able to play."
On playing in front of the fans after 577 days...
"I think playing in front of the fans after so long was a big motivating factor for us. We were able to put on a good game and the ideas we were working on midweek worked out for us. We are happy for the victory. On a personal level I think it's a good moment for me and I just have to keep working hard to continue to play well."
On the next game against Philadelphia...
"Yea after today's game we feel like we took a little pressure off of us. And we just have to keep working hard, we'll prepare this week for the game against Philadelphia, focus and continue to play well, pressuring, and trying to get the victory."
New York City FC Defender Tayvon Gray
On making his professional debut...
"It felt great making my debut, I've been waiting for this time all my life since I realized that I wanted to pursue soccer seriously. Just proud that I got that off my chest. Time stuck out on the bench, it's a good moment."
On fans chanting for him on the field after match...
"That felt amazing, at first I didn't know that they were screaming for me. I didn't realize and then as I got closer they kept getting louder and louder, so I was like "oh that's for me!" So I started throwing my hands up and stuff, so that was pretty cool! And then I have my family I have my dad and my mom, my uncle and my little sister in the stands."
On Sean Johnson's performance...
"Big time players make big plays! He made a beautiful two saves in a row. That's just Sean. I just expect that from him. He's our captain. I feel like he just brings out the best in everyone."
