Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, FL - The Fort Myers Miracle are hoping the Lakeland Tigers don't ruin their second half as well. The Tigers defeated the Miracle on the final day of the first half which prevented the Miracle from winning the division and on Friday night at Hammond Stadium the Miracle had their nine game winning streak snapped by those same Tigers 4-2 cutting the Miracle lead in the Western Division to 1.5 games over the Clearwater Threshers.

During the nine game winning streak the Miracle had given up just 13 runs, but the second worst hitting team in the FSL put up three runs in the second inning off of Miracle starter Josh Hill. With the Miracle leading 1-0 Jeff Larish led off the second with a single. Brent Dlugach followed with a double that put runners at second and third. Gilberto Mejia knocked in both runs with a single of his own. Hill then walked Chris Robinson and with one out walked Adrian Casanova to load the bases. Clete Thomas' sac fly made it 3-1 Tigers. Hill went 5.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out six.

The Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh when Thomas led off with a double off of Miracle reliever Ryan Callahan. Juan Francia sacrificed him to third and Jeff Frazier's single scored Thomas.

The Miracle had a golden opportunity to tie the game in the eighth. Trevor Plouffe led off the inning with a walk. He finished the night 0-4 ending his 10 game hitting streak. The next batter David Winfree was hit by a pitch. Brock Peterson followed with an RBI single to make it 4-2 and Deacon Burns' bunt single loaded the bases with nobody out. The Miracle, however, couldn't push across anymore runs as Luke Hughes struck out, Steve Tolleson popped out and Erold Andrus flew out to right to end the inning.

The Miracle look to begin a new winning streak Saturday night against the Lakeland Tigers at 7:05 p.m. The Miracle send RHP Kyle Waldrop (3-0, 2.51) to the mound. It is Scout Night II - the Great All Nighter where kids and their parents will spend the night on the Hammond Stadium field following the game. It is also Military Appreciation Night where all active and retired military personnel get into the ballpark free.
