Florence, KY - Northern Kentucky University (NKU) has signed a five-year deal with the Florence Freedom to play all NKU Norse home baseball games at Champion Window Field. Champion Window Field is home to the Florence Freedom professional baseball team. NKU baseball coach Todd Asalon said he hopes the partnership will allow the Norse to attract more recruits from around the region by playing in the state-of-the-art facility. "Recruiting kids I am competing with the University of Cincinnati, Miami (OH), and the University of Dayton," Asalon said. "Now in our conference, we have the best facility." Fans will also have a great venue for watching NKU baseball games. The Florence Freedom organization is also excited about the partnership. "We are pleased that Champion Window Field will serve as the new home of the Norse," said Freedom President Clint Brown. "Adding NKU's baseball season to the 48 Florence Freedom games each summer is consistent with our objective of becoming one of the area's top entertainment venues. Our ultimate goal is to host up to 100 events annually at the ballpark." Bringing Norse fans into the stadium is just one of the perks of the arrangement. Freedom Director of Baseball Operations Jamie Keefe said the partnership benefits both NKU and the Freedom. "It is great for the organization and great for NKU baseball," Keefe said. "It helps Coach Asalon with his recruiting and brings college talent to my backyard."

Norse baseball at Champion Window Field kicks off Saturday, March 4th with a double header against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at noon.

Northern Kentucky University is a major metropolitan institution boasting more than 14,000 undergraduate, graduate and law students. The NKU Norse baseball team competes at the NCAA Division II level in the highly competitive Great Lakes Valley Conference.
