Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI, February 23, 2005: Now that the Traverse City Beach Bums have loaded their roster with four players who hit over .290 last season, the team is turning towards pitching as today, the Beach Bums announced the signing of Hunter Davis.

Davis went 2-1 last season with a 2.95 ERA and five saves for Richmond. He pitched in 31 games all in relief, accumulating 39.2 innings, walking 14 and striking out 24. The most consistent Rooster reliever last season, Davis held opponents to a .207 batting average. His best month was July when he went 2-0 with four saves and a 1.35 ERA in 12 games.

"Hunter is a strong pitcher who has a lot of natural talent," said Traverse City manager Jeff Isom. "With the experience he brings in as a closer in college and coming in as a reliever professionally last season, he should fit in nicely somewhere at the back end of our bullpen."

The 24 year-old Davis came to Richmond after his senior season (2005) at Jacksonville University. For the Dolphins, Davis had a 2.06 ERA and 11 saves. The 11 saves ranked him second both on the season for the Atlantic Sun Conference and on the Jacksonville's single season list. He was named the A-Sun Conference's pitcher of the week for the week of May 23rd and was named as an Honorable Mention on the All-Sunshine State team.

A transfer from Florida State, Davis pitched for the Seminoles in 2004 appearing in 18 games for an FSU team that finished ranked 12th in the nation and advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals.

Davis played his freshman and sophomore years at Florida Community College-Jacksonville. As a sophomore in 2003, he went 4-3 with a 1.39 ERA and averaged 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings pitched. Playing right out of the gate in his college career, Davis picked up 28 innings as a freshman reliever for FCC-Jacksonville.

The Traverse City Beach Bums will kick off their inaugural season on May 24, 2006 with a game against the defending Frontier League champions, the Kalamazoo Kings. Individual game tickets will go on sale on March 16th at Wuerfel Park, located at Chums Corner on US-31 South. The Traverse City Beach Bums can be reached at 231-943-0100 or online at www.traversecitybeachbums.com.
