June 15, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release
LYNN, Mass. - North Shore Spirit pitcher Ken Ray has been signed by the Atlanta Braves.
Ray, the CanAm League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 30-June 6, was 2-0 with a 2.75 ERA for the Spirit. He had 22 strikeouts in 19.2 innings.
"Kenny is an extremely talented pitcher. He has thrown consistently in the 90s for us," said Spirit player procurement director Jeff Kunion. "He's gotten back to his level in the major leagues. We wish him the best and will miss his presence on the mound, but we are confident that the Spirit will continue with their winning ways."
Ray, an Atlanta native, is in his 12th season of professional baseball. After being selected by Kansas City in the 18th round of the 1993 draft, he spent seven seasons in the Royals organization, including 13 games in the majors in 1999. Ray, 30, played the 2002 season in the Western and Atlantic leagues, the 2003 season in the Milwaukee organization, and 2004 in the Chicago White Sox system, where at Class A Winston-Salem he was second in the Carolina League in wins with 12.
The North Shore Spirit play at Fraser Field on Friday at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Grays. For all the latest Spirit news visit www.northshorespirit.com or call (781) 592-0007.
