Published on June 15, 2005 under Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
The North Shore Spirit have sold the contract of RHP Ken Ray to the Atlanta Braves organization. Ray, 30, will report immediately to Richmond, the Braves' AAA affiliate in the International League. Named the May 30-June 6 SportsTicker Can-Am League Player of the Week, he had gone 2-0 with a 3.75 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched for the Spirit this season. Opponents were batting just .143 against the Atlanta native.
Currently in his twelfth season of professional baseball, Ray was selected by Kansas City in the eighteenth round of the 1993 draft. He spent seven seasons in the Royals organization, including 13 games in the majors in 1999. After playing the 2002 season in the Western and Atlantic Leagues, he moved to the Milwaukee organization in 2003 and the Chicago White Sox system in 2004, where at Class A Winston-Salem he was second in the Carolina League in wins with 12. Ray is the second Can-Am League player signed by a major league organization this season. Quebec's Gabe Ribas, signed by Philadelphia on May 26, is currently 1-1 with a 2.65 ERA at single-A Clearwater.
